Can I give a customer a credit or gift for leaving a Google review?

No. Google bars rewards for any review. That includes payment, discounts, free goods or services. A credit or gift tied to a review breaks that rule even if you do not ask for five stars. Ask for honest feedback with no reward or pressure.

Keep rewards out of review requests

Google Maps policy also bars rewards for changing or removing a negative review. Do not offer a credit to get a complaint taken down.

We suggest checking the office’s wording before starting review requests. Keep the invitation clear. Resolve service problems on their own terms, separate from any review.

Invite feedback without filtering

Google allows requests about real experiences without rewards or attempts to shape the score or content. It bars discouraging bad reviews or choosing only customers likely to write good ones.

Do not tell customers which words to use. Do not require or pressure them to review while on the premises. Those are part of the same policy.

Give staff a clear rule

Our suggested rule: ask for honest feedback, give nothing in return and do not ask for a score. Check any vendor automation against the policy before use.

Review Maps visibility and vendor access as separate checks. A provider’s role does not change the review rules.

Next step

Get the exact review request your office or vendor uses. Bring it to a wording review before turning it on.
